Lick the Spoon announced Best Independent Food Producer!

On Friday 14th March 2008 the winners of the Wiltshire Life Awards initiative were announced at a ceremony held at Wilton house, Wilton, Wiltshire. Former Conservative Party Deputy chairman and bestselling author Michael Dobbs presented a total of 10 awards recognising excellence across Wiltshire.

Wiltshire Chocolatier Best in the West!

The best of the South West products were named this week  at the ceremony for the Taste of the West Awards 2007.  Renowned chef and regional food ambassador Michael Caines MBE presented a total of 19 awards including eleven Best of Category product awards.

Chippenham based chocolatier Lick the Spoon  secured the prestigious Best of Bakery and Confectionery title as the winners of the final round of judging were named at the ceremony held at Forde Abbey in Somerset.... click here for full article

 

Is Chocolate an Aphrodisiac?

Well not if you’re a hardworking Chocolatier burning the midnight oil and failing to get it on with your other half! For the rest of us however chocolate might just tickle the parts that oysters fail to reach! Need more convincing?….read on….

            The ancient Mayans drank it for fertility, and the Aztecs were convinced that chocolate was a potent aphrodisiac. King Montezuma had rather a large harem which, as all harem keepers know, requires considerable dedication to satisfy. Fifty cups of chocolate a day later and Monte was a happy man. It’s difficult to know of course which part of the heady mix worked. A known active ingredient is the stimulant theobromine, but there may have been other stimulants added to that heady mix. This chocolate drink flavoured with spices such as vanilla and chilli peppers was even exchanged  as a part of the Mayan marriage ceremony.... click here for full article
