Local Chocolatier licks the competition!

Press Release 13th August 2007

Chippenham based chocolatier Lick the Spoon  have been awarded both Gold and Silver in the prestigious Taste of the West awards.

In the highly competitive confectionery category with over fifty entries, Lick the Spoon won the elusive gold award for their “One for me - One for you” handmade chocolate selection and silver for their “85% Chocolate coated Ginger”

Chocolatier Diana Short is delighted and attributes the success to the “classic combination of quality ingredients and original recipes, beautifully hand tempered chocolate, and oodles of passion!”

Diana has just spent the weekend with her husband and two young sons picking wild blackberries to make bramble jelly…”the essence of my Mulled Blackberry chocolate is a homemade bramble jelly, which  has to be made from the wild variety, fresh from the hedgerow…the cultivated varieties simply don’t have the same flavour ”she insists. It’s a race against time to gather enough to see them through the year, but if they run out, there will be no substituting with a shop bought jelly…”Our chocolates are seasonal..we like to feature special recipes to suit the time of year. The strawberry truffles have been a good seller through the summer, but already we are gearing up for Christmas and developing new centres like a truffle with pure Madagascan vanilla and single estate chocolate”.

The small family business has only been going for 9 months, but they hope to eventually expand into a shop. For now, their chocolates can be bought from their website or from a few select retail outlets, amongst them, The Allington Farm shop who supply them with the cream and local honey for their creations.

“These awards have made all the hard work worthwhile and given us a real confidence boost” says Diana…and here’s to many more!
