Liqueur Cherry Chocolates Finalists 2021

We’re delighted to be finalists at the Taste of the West Awards 2021 in both the Chocolate and the Vegan Category!

Following our record Eleven Taste of the West Gold Awards and a Silver award earlier this year, we now have three products selected as finalists for the Taste of the West Champions 2021, patron HRH Prince Charles. In the Chocolate category our Liqueur Cherry Chocolates and new Half and Half Milk Chocolate Easter Egg Peanuts & Pretzels with Salted Caramel and Peanut Truffles are both Finalists for the Champion Chocolate award.

For the first time ever we are also finalists in the Vegan Category with our new Half & Half Vegan Chocolate Easter egg – Cashew Milk & Almond White with Cherry & Amaretto ganaches & Salted Caramels.

The Taste of the West awards are considered the oscars of the South-West food and drink industry and attract over a 1000 product entrants from across the South-West each year. These are then judged by a panel of experts and awarded Gold, Silver or Highly Commended awards. The highest scored Gold award winners are then contacted for a further round of judging to determine the finalists in each product category. The announcement was a welcome boost in what’s been an unpredictable year as Christmas markets and events are once again cancelled.

Our wonderful liqueur cherries have evolved over the years, and we think this is the best evolution yet. We directly source the cherries from a small distiller and grower in the Perigord region of France and pair them with Raisetrade Madagascan dark chocolate, forming a crisp dark dome containing the unctuous centre surrounding the cherries. The making process requires time and care for the centre to naturally transform.

We’re so pleased to be finalists in the Vegan category. We’ve continued to expand on our Vegan chocolate range and earlier this year invested part of our coronavirus bounce back loan into a new chocolate tempering machine dedicated to the Madagascan Vegan cashew milk chocolate. The cashew milc chocolate has a wonderful story, being part of a program by the WWF in Madagascar to restore the Masiloka lake region through small scale Cashew nut production. The Almond White chocolate half of our easter egg is made from scratch by us in a small scale grinder. It takes a minimum of 72 hours to produce the chocolate. As our Vegan chocolate is nut based the new tempering machine allows us to retain allergen segregation between nut based and non-nut based chocolate as well as meeting the growing demand for non-dairy plant based chocolates. 

The overall Category champions and Supreme Champion will be announced in mid-October. Unfortunately there won’t be an awards ceremony this year but we’re keeping our fingers crossed!
