The story behind our Mary Pickford cocktail truffle…
Canadian born Mary Pickford was a glamorous 1920’s silent film actress known as ‘America’s sweetheart’. At one point the highest paid woman in America!
An astute business woman she was also a producer and co-founded the United Artists studio, as well as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
She was married to the actor Douglas Fairbanks and as Hollywood royalty visited Havana with her husband and their friend, the actor Charlie Chaplin.
The drink made it into print in 1928, first appearing in ‘When It’s Cocktail Time in Cuba’ by Basil Woon. In 1930 It was accepted into the Savoy Cocktail book with the addition of maraschino cherry liqueur, and this is the version we have been inspired by to create our Mary Pickford Cocktail truffle.
