On the penultimate day of our trip to Madagascar earlier this year we met with Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Madagsascar Timothy Smart. We were honoured to meet with the Ambassador and find out more about his role in Madagascar. Of course as chocolatiers it was only fitting to mimic the well known television campaign and bring our own Chocolates for the Ambassador! The British Embassy is situated in a suburb of the Madagscan capital Antananarivo. Our visit was arranged by Neil Kelsall Director of Chocolat Madagsacar and founder of Raisetrade as an opportunity to talk with the Ambassador.
Timothy introduced himself and soon put us at ease with a cup of tea. He told us of the recent political history of Madagascar and of the challenges facing the country from political stability to preserving the rain forest and the challenges of deforestation. Tim was clearly passionate about the wonderful country of Madagscar that was his new home. As he said…
It gets under your skin – Madagscar
There are many things we can’t divulge from the meeting. We spent an hour talking with Timothy and each asking our own questions and talking about our experiences. We were left with the impression of a consummate professional with a passion for Madagscar and the relations between our two countries and the wider European community.
Finally there was chance for a photo call before we said our goodbyes.
Thank you to HM Ambassador Timothy Smart for such an interesting meeting and to Neil Kelsall for arranging our time at the Embassy, allowing us to understand all perspectives of magnificent Madagscar.
